Federal Court Litigation

Jacksonville, Florida Federal Court Litigation

Are you facing criminal charges in Federal Court?

Federal crimes can result in significant legal consequences. Fortunately, a lawyer can often have the penalties that you are facing significantly reduced and, in some cases, may even be able to have them completely dropped or dismissed. In cases in which there are no clear legal defenses available, we will aggressively negotiate with the prosecutor assigned to your case in order to obtain the most favorable plea bargain possible. In some cases, effective plea bargaining can result in the option to enter into a diversionary program or a suspended adjudication of guilt. These arrangements can often avoid a conviction from being entered on your record, preventing the matter from affecting you for years to come.

Types of Federal Criminal Defense Cases

There are generally three types of federal criminal defense cases, those that involve:

  • Serious narcotics offenses
  • Computer crimes, particularly interstate and international child pornography distribution
  • White-collar crimes

Serious Narcotic Offenses
Federal narcotics Trafficking and Distribution laws penalize the selling, transportation, and illegal import into the United States of unlawful controlled substances such as marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, LSD, “club drugs,” and heroin. The Federal distribution and trafficking laws vary according to drug and the amount.
Federal penalties are generally much harsher and carry a greater term than those imposed by Florida law.

Computer Crimes
Federal laws make it a crime to produce, possess, distribute, or sell pornographic materials that exploit or portray a minor. Additionally, federal child pornography laws are being utilized to punish the use of computer technology and the Internet to obtain, share, and distribute pornographic material involving children. As with narcotics offenses, federal child pornography penalties are also much harsher than those prosecuted under California law.

White Collar Crimes

Included in this definition are offenses that involve:

  • Fraud
  • Bribery
  • Insider Trading
  • Embezzlement
  • Computer Crime
  • Forgery
